Om Banna Story - Royal Rajasthan

Om Banna History

Om Singh Rathore (also called Shri Om Banna and Pellet Baba) is a sanctum located in the Pali quarter near Jodhpur, India, devoted to a deity called Om Banna. It's located 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Pali and 53 kilometres (33 mi) down from Jodphur on the Pali-Jodhpur track, near Chotila village. The motorcycle is a Royal Enfield Pellet RNJ 7773 350cc.

Hundreds of addicts turn up every day to supplicate for a safe trip.

On May 5, 1988, Om Banna (formerly known as Om Singh Rathore; banna, a memorial word used for Rajput youth) was travelling from the city of Bangdi, near Sanderao of Pali, to Chotila when he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a tree. He failed on the spot, while the motorcycle fell into a nearby gutter. The morning after the accident, the original police took the motorcycle to a nearby police station. The coming day, it was reported to have mysteriously faded from the station and was found back at the point of the incident.

Police took the motorcycle once more, this time evacuating its energy tank and locking it up. Despite their sweats, the coming morning it again faded and was planted at the accident point. The legend says that the motorcycle kept returning to the same gutter. Every attempt by police to keep it at the original police station failed; the motorcycle always returned to the same spot before dawn.

This came to be seen as a phenomenon by the original population, and they began to worship the "pellet bike." News of the phenomenon motorcycle spread to nearby townlets, and latterly, they erected a tabernacle to worship it. This tabernacle is known as "Pellet Baba's Temple." It's believed that Om Banna's spirit helps worried trippers.

Every day, hard-townies and tourists stop and supplicate for the bike and its late proprietor, Om Singh Rathore. Those who pass by stop to bow their heads and leave immolations in honour of the helpful spirit, and some motorists also offer small bottles of alcohol at the point.

It's said that a person who doesn't stop to supplicate at the sanctum is in for a dangerous trip. Addicts also apply the "tilak" mark and tie a red thread on the motorbike. Original people sing folk songs in the name of Om Banna.

The tree that caused Om Banna's death remains ornamented with immolated lavalieres, scarves, etc.

Immolations include incense sticks, flowers, coconut, liquor, red thread, and sweets. The sanctum contains eternal honey.
